Fundraising Tips

Raising money can seem overwhelming at first, but just think, if you can find just six people to donate $10 each, you will have already raised $60!!  Below are some helpful tips on how to go about reaching your fundraising goals:

Who to Ask?

Parents, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Friends, Neighbors, Local Business Owners, Teachers, Church Members, Doctors, etc.

How to Ask?

  • Personalized Webpage—design a standout personalized fundraising webpage and use Facebook and My Space to spread the word and direct people to the site.
  • E-mails/Letters—this can be a very fast and effective way to get money.  Write an e-mail/letter in a similar format as the sample letter included in this packet and send them to as many people as possible.
  • Face-to-Face—take some time to go around your neighborhood and share about the walkathon and how you plan to participate.  Also included in this packet is an Off-Line Donation Form that donors can fill out if they are unable to access a computer.
  • Phone Calls—pick up the phone and call all those people who might be willing to give but aren’t necessarily computer savvy.  Talk about the event and ask if they’d be willing to donate.  Use the off-line Sponsor Sheet to record their contribution.

When to Ask?

The process of collecting money from donors can take some time, so make sure to start your fundraising program EARLY!!  That way, you have some more time to meet your fundraising goal if your first approach is not working as well as you had hoped.

* Just remember, asking for donations can be difficult for some people, however, it helps to think about how your efforts will be changing the lives of children in Malawi, Africa!

IMPORTANT—Make sure to thank each donor for their support!!
